What do you do with a BA in English?...

...is an Avenue Q song sung often in my presence, especially by a Singaporean friend named Anand and other silly and kurang ajar freshman (although I still love them to bits). Why, you ask? Because I am an *dumdumduuummmmmm* English major. Indeed. So what do you do with a BA in English? Why, teach of course. As cliched as it may sound.

So. This time, instead of being all Tok (talk) and no Aksyen (action), i am ALL AKSYEN. Hehe. Well, kind of. Ms Caroline (an ex-lecturer at HELP) basically was just like, "Hey, Cris, would you like to intern here?" and I was like sure. So. Next week I start interning at HELP, basically conducting A Levels English Lit workshops for the current A Levels students. Yup. I was up til like 2 am last night working on a lesson schedule for the next four weeks, and soon I will be working my backside off creating lesson plans, re-reading my old texts and notes, researching stuff, critiquing essays... funfunfun. :) But also workworkwork. :( And at the most basic level of Cristabeldom... there is immense laziness. But all Cristabel needs is also a kick in the balls to get her started and working. So, feel free to kick her in the balls. Kidding lah. She doesn't really have balls, duh. I mean she metaphorically does (see, already using lit terms in everyday speech! heehee), but she does not actually have testes.

Yup. So. Will be at HELP (University College) on Tuesdays and Wednesdays for pretty much the whole day, like from 10-4, and occasionally until 6. Will also be teaching for most of this time (which in retrospect seems to have been a rather silly move as I will just end up killing myself) but will have a half hour free for lunch from 11.45-12.15 so, if you're in the area, feel free to come chill and listen to me moan and groan. :) Company is always welcome.

Other than that, wish me luck!!!! :D

OMG i want to kill myself.

random entertainment news found on the web:

Item #4: As you’re ticking off signs of the imminent collapse of Western civilization, near the top of the list must be the fact that the blissfully talent-free Paris Hilton now has 10 feature films on her résumé, not to mention a half-dozen-or-so TV guest spots (including, sadly, one on a show beloved by all Pajibers, “Veronica Mars”). Well, things are about to get exponentially worse, as she takes on one of the title roles (guess which one) in The Hottie and the Nottie for Summit Entertainment. The logline on this one is “Before Nate can date the gorgeous Cristabel, he has to find a boyfriend for her less-than-beautiful friend,” but I suspect it might more accurately be described as “90 minutes of Hilton assuming slutty, hip-thrust poses and babbling nonsensically while displaying her bizarre alien physiognomy.” The script is by Heidi Ferrer, who did a few episodes of “Dawson’s Creek” and the uncredited first draft for How to Deal, and the director is Tom Putnam, who has previously helmed willfully “quirky” indie spoofs like Shafted and Broadcast 23, so, even discounting the Hilton factor, the movie can only be a hideous, Frankensteinian patchwork of mismatched parts. I keep trying to picture what the promotional artwork might look like but, whenever I do, the title is partially obscured by a $5.99 Best Buy sticker. — Jeremy C. Fox

wtf??!?!?!??!?!?!?!??!?!?!?!??!

i hate her so, so, so much. sullying my good name. omg. and she is not even in the slightest bit attractive. i hate her so much. omg.

i think that i actually quite like Ashton Kutcher.

no, don't die of a heart attack. and no, it's not because he's kinda cute, because he isn't that cute, and it's definitely not because he's like an amazing actor or anything. i mean, he's okay. it's kind of, well, because recently for some reason or another, i've happened to catch several things that he's produced recently, and i've actually been kind of impressed. not by the quality (occasionally debatable) of the shows themselves, but of what they seem to tell me of Ashton Kutcher as a person. and no i know that you can't really like expect to understand the inner workings of a person's mind through like a couple of shows that they've worked on, but...

i feel like he's a good guy. the two shows i'm talking about--Punk'd and Beauty and the Geek are on the surface like two of the most ridiculous shows ever. needlessly baiting and catching celebrities off-guard, pissing them off, forcing them to be the flawed human beings they are, and BatG--the premise is ridiculous, makes blatant generalizations about people based on their looks or lack therof and basically makes fun of these people. superficially, these shows seem so the Ashton Kutcher i thought he was--very slapstick and obvious humour, and kind of immature. recently, however, i've found a certain sweetness in them. there was this Punk'd episode where the crew punk'd David Boreanaz (of Buffy and Angel fame) by putting glass into his wife's food which she pretends to have cut her, and the maitre'd giving him a hard time. DB handled the situation and obnoxious waiter so well, keeping calm and polite even though the dude was clearly being an ass, but still firm in ensuring that his wife was comfortable and completely uncompromised... such a gentleman. so. this tells us that DB is a sweetheart. but what does this tell us of Ashton himself? well at the end of the program, he was all like, "if there's one hot guy in Hollywood that i kind of like, it's David Boreanaz." i don't know how someone else'd read that statement, but i saw it as Ashton appreciating in DB the same things that i did--his genteel manner and disposition, and his care for his loved one. maybe i'm projecting. or over-reading. but then in Beauty and the Geek... well the last episode was tonight. and the final challenge was for each of the individuals in the two remaining pairs to show their respective partners something that they hold very dear to themselves. so Mindi brought Richard kayaking, Chuck taught Caitilin some martial arts, Caitilin cooked for and with Chuck, and Richard played the piano for Mindi. it was actually really really sweet because you could finally see the characters in situations where they were really themselves and opening up and the partners somehow connecting because this was that much more real for them (we won't go into how actually real these reality shows really are) and there was a genuinity in their interactions that hadn't always been apparent. and i think that by putting this as the final challenge (some of the earlier ones were just kind of silly), this showed that the show was about more than a sensationalization of each of these characters' supposed roles in society, and was about just showing that there is more underneath the whole Beauty vs Geek premise. there was somehow a sweetness in that last episode that was so missing from other reality dating shows like Joe Millionaire (1 and 2!) (not that i watched any of those koffkoff) where you could just feel how the producers were just manipulating the general public and their need for sensationalistic television. it seems like Ashton Kutcher's actually trying to say something--maybe that love isn't dead? and that there are good people in the world worth getting to know. such hopeful messages. maybe i'm being naive and maybe he's just a freaking marketing genius. but maybe i am right and Ashton Kutcher is trying to make the world a better place in his own little way. i dunno. it's nice to think that some people are really using their stardom to kind of do something.

okay i apologise. that has to be the most ridiculously random post. :( but know that i love you for reading it anyway. :)
